I have thought long and hard about whether or not to show up here.
The last thing any of us need is more noise and opinion. The last thing I need is another job to take up more of my time.
So why jump in here?
· I want to keep growing as a writer. Becoming “civilized” in a creative career is often the kiss of death. You forget the raw aspects of the craft. I’ve watched many people – from writers to speakers to pastors – become a shell of themselves once they learned how to perfect something that pure passion once drove. The only way to stay effective is to stay humble. I have no doubt that writing here will not only take me back to my roots of article-writing and blogging, but with sometime unpopular things being shared here, keep me humble. I have no editors to save me from myself. Writing here will make me a better writer, and thus, more effective.
· I want to use my God given gifts in life-giving, productive ways. I’ve been thinking a lot about time and the value of what I’m producing in my work life. I am in a season where I’m consistently asking the question: “is this a valuable use of my time, gifts and purpose?” Many things do not make the cut – far fewer, the older I get. Producing in this season of my life means: making sure I’m operating in my spiritual gifts to fulfill my Matthew 28:19 purpose and helping financially support my family. Quite simply, those things drive the work I do.
· I want to help you. I don’t know why you came here, but I can tell you what I mean to serve you with, should you choose to stay. I believe we lack clarity in this world – specifically, biblical clarity about everyday issues. I am simple and practical. That is what I pray to bring to this space. If you often walk away from conversations and consumed media with your brain feeling like mush soup, I trust you’ll find some help, here.
Author Harrison Scott Key once described the therapeutic relationship with writing in such a perfect way: I write to figure out my life.
But let me be clear: I’ve come here for much more than that.
So, hello and welcome.
Incredible glad that you are here
